Review
Fasthosts review - this is my honest account and being a fasthosts
customer.
We all rely on our quality domain and
hosting service and I am no different. I have a huge collection of
websites and Blogs that I need complete control over and need a
perfect service 365 days a year. I also want to receive this at a
competitive price.
I used to be one of
their loyal customers…...but not anymore
I first joined them in the summer of 2005
when I was looking for a company that provided a free Sitebuilder as
at the time I didn’t even know how to open Frontpage let alone
actually use it.
At the time I agree the designs available
were pretty bad and no matter which font I used they all looked pretty
terrible. But it really didn’t matter as everyone was in the same boat
back then.
But as the years progressed everyone else
improved their free Sitebuilder apart from
Fasthosts. But I thought to
myself that it was too hard to change over and the hassle that it
involved.
However close to the end of 2008 I had
created my very own Blog with Hostgator and was now pretty good with
Frontpage so I decided it was time for a change. Plus I realised I
could pay $9.99 in fees for my Blog and all my websites. Instead of
paying this and a further £5.00 a month per domain. I couldn’t believe
how much money I would be able to save and how much I had flushed down
the toilet.
I then decided to leave
Fasthosts after
setting up all the hosting elsewhere. The only problem is they
wouldn’t let me!
It was like I was in a cult that I
couldn’t escape from………..

Firstly I contacted them by email and
asked them how I could close my account. They replied telling me that
I could only cancel it by phone via a premium rate number and as I was
calling from Portugal it would cost me even more.
So after being left on hold for ages I was
now £25 down ($60 approximately) and was told over the phone to
manually remove my hosting from the old domains online before they
could cancel it and emailed me the link to do so.
Why on earth couldn’t they have said this
in the first place by email?
It’s really simple they wanted to make
money out of my phone call. When I called them back I was told by
someone called Asif with very little understanding of English that my
account had been cancelled and no further charges would be made.
A day later I noticed a charge for £10 on
my bank account and after some investigating found out they had
charged me to transfer a domain that I just had web forwarding with
them. I was very happy with the service the current registrar offered
and as it hadn’t been registered for long I would have been really
stupid to pay for the domain name twice in the very same year.
I complained to
Fasthosts and was informed
that I had requested a change when I hadn’t and I had five days to
confirm the transfer and if not the charge would be refunded.
A month on and I’m still waiting…………
Then very soon after this particular
charge, they then continued to charge me for hosting that had been
cancelled.
There explanation was that no member of
staff would have been able to cancel my order as my hosting was under
contract even though I had emailed them at sign up to ask if I could
cancel at any time.
This should have been pointed out to me at
sign up and again when I contacted them and they wouldn’t even tell me
when my contract was due to finish.
It was like trying to get blood out of
a stone…
So I immediately cancelled my debit card
that it had been authorised from and they can whistle for their
contract. I’ve sent them an official complaint in writing and if they
don’t refund me “hello small claims court”.
Ill let you know the outcome!
